Niall Forde (born 1708 AN) is a Ransenari civil servant serving as Grain Commissioner of the Realm of Ransenar since 1746 AN. He succeeded Cormac O'Grady, who had held the position since its creation in 1732 AN.
Early life
Forde was born in rural Holwinn to a tenant farming family. His father worked land owned by a licensed agricultural corporation near Airle. Forde received a basic parish education and worked on the family holding until his early twenties, when he secured a position as a clerk with the Holwinn County Agricultural Board.
He demonstrated an aptitude for land assessment and was promoted to county agricultural officer by 1733 AN. In this role, he conducted soil surveys, monitored crop yields, and advised the county commission on planting priorities.
Wartime service
During the Shiro-Benacian War, Forde managed harvest labor pools in Holwinn under the direction of the Grain Commissioner's office. His reports to Goldfield were noted for their detail regarding soil conditions, drainage problems, and crop rotation schedules.
Cormac O'Grady brought Forde to Goldfield in 1738 AN as a deputy. While O'Grady handled transport negotiations and export contracts, Forde coordinated field operations across the Realm's counties. The arrangement continued until O'Grady's departure in 1746 AN.
Grain Commissioner
O'Grady recommended Forde as his successor, telling the Ransenari Congress that the post-war period required "someone who knows what the soil needs, not just what the ledgers say." The Congress confirmed Forde without opposition.
As Grain Commissioner, Forde has focused on agricultural rehabilitation. His priorities have included restoring farmland in the newly integrated Guttuli territories, addressing soil exhaustion caused by wartime overproduction, and rebuilding drainage and irrigation infrastructure that suffered from deferred maintenance during the war years. Forde is known for spending more time in the field than his predecessor. He conducts regular inspections of farms and storage facilities across the Realm and is reportedly more approachable than O'Grady was. Colleagues have noted that he is less adept at political maneuvering than his mentor. O'Grady, now Third Consul of the Benacian Union, is said to occasionally send Forde unsolicited advice on navigating Goldfield politics.
Personal life
Forde is unmarried. He maintains a small residence in Goldfield but spends much of his time traveling between counties.
