The Republic of Matamoros is a government-in-exile under the "perpetual tutelage"[1] of the Imperial Federation looking to restore the territories of the former State of Matamoros in the Anahuaco Empire.

Establishment

On 9.II.1743 AN, Santiago Alguacil met with a group of Ralgonese bureaucrats and Anahuacano leaders in the Green to quietly form the provisional government in the former territories of Matamoros and begin drafting a constitution for the new nation. By 18.III.1743 the Provisional Government of the Republic of Matamoros had been established.

Geography

The terrain of Matamoros is dominated by rainforests. These rainforests are some of the most biodiverse in Keltia, with over a million species of fauna documented within the area.

The coastal regions are mostly plains cleared out over decades of settlement for use as farmland. These plains feed the majority of the people who live in Matamoros. Following the East Keltian Collapse, however, some of these plains have been reclaimed by the rainforest.

The hills to the far north, aside from serving as a basic form of frontier defense, are also home to the copper mines that generate much of the region's wealth.
