Mount Broadshaw Volcanic Observatory
The Mount Broadshaw Volcanic Observatory (MBVO) is a regional government agency of New Luthoria, a Region of Nouvelle Alexandrie. It operates in coordination and with the support of the Federal Geological Service and other local and private organizations to monitor Mount Broadshaw. Founded in 1701 AN after the first eruption on historical record for Mount Broadshaw, the MBVO has quickly attracted funding from both public and private sources to develop the study of active volcanism, with the observatory obtaining a high reputation across Nouvelle Alexandrie.
Prior to 1710 AN, the observatory's offices were located in New Luthoria City. In 1710 AN, the MBVO opened its new central headquarters and regional response facilities, Fort Alterston, in New Luthoria City.
Operations
The Mount Broadshaw Volcanic Observatory hosts a large monitoring network, with over 150 remote stations transmitting data to the central headquarters in New Luthoria City. The information is provided immediately via satellite and the internet, as is live coverage of any ongoing eruptions from webcams and radars accessible from the MBVO's website. Another important function of MBVO is to monitor the emissions that produce the volcanic pollution condition known as vog. The observatory advises the regional and local governments when to close areas due to this and other volcanic hazards.
The Region of New Luthoria and local governments all provide funding to maintain the MBVO through their own budget processes. The budget for the Observatory and its operations as of 1713 AN was €101 million écu.
