The Laq Republic is a people's republic of Sanama, located in the east of the country. The republic has an area of 13,000 km2 and a population of over one million people, making it the one of the smallest in both area and population. It was formed in 1702 following the Sanaman Civil War. The republic consists of several islands off the Semisan coast as well as two coastal areas. It was formed as a homeland for the Laqs in Sanama. Like Semisa, the Laq Republic has a large production of bananas, papaya and vegetables, combined with some chicken and egg production. The republic also has a sizeable fishing industry. The capital Galarmjabat is located on the mainland and has a large military presence, as well as a growing petroleum industry. The republic is bordered to the northwest by Soli across the Z Channel, to the north by Semisa, to the northeast by Shireroth, and to the southeast by Estarisa across the Strait of Estarisa.
