The SkyGuardian MPADS, or SkyGuardian MANPADS, developed in 1720 AN by Neridia Defense Industries in collaboration with Javelin Industries, is a man-portable air-defense system designed to meet the operational requirements of the Federal Forces of Nouvelle Alexandrie and the broader Raspur Pact. Initially conceived to address the strategic challenges posed by the international conflict against the Confederacy of the Dispossessed, the system aimed to enhance the portable air defense capabilities of military forces. Despite its early development and intended purpose, no orders were placed until 1729 AN, when Oportia became the first to procure the system.
Characteristics
The SkyGuardian combines advanced targeting systems with dual-mode seeker technology, enabling it to effectively counter low-flying aircraft, drones, and helicopters even in challenging environmental conditions. Its lightweight design and ease of operation make it an ideal choice for infantry units requiring portable yet powerful air defense capabilities. Designed for quick deployment and high mobility, the SkyGuardian offers a range of features that include infrared homing complemented by UV detection to minimize countermeasure effectiveness, a high-explosive fragmentation warhead for effective target neutralization, and a network-enabled interface for integration with broader defense systems.
The launcher itself fires the modernised Waspsting infrared homing missile, an updated version of a stalwart short-range air defence missile commonly operated throughout the Raspur Pact, with a lineage dating back to the Sxiro-Jingdaoese Confrontation.
