The Ashlands are a large central Hold within the Kingdom of Ashinthael. It is south of the mountainous Dagoran Spine in an area that, in centuries past, was decimated by dragon fire. During the Great Rebellion era when the dragons revolted against the corrupt rule of men, the area was laid waste by fire and the great forests burned to ash by the time the war concluded. For years the area was covered in a cloak of ash and dust, left a grey, bleak area that was completely inhospitable; wherein it became known as the Ashlands. As men and dragons learned to trust another once again and the land was slowly reclaimed, the Ashinthalers built the great Ash Fort as the heart of the dragon rider's empire. This predated the construction of the Marble Palace, and Ash Fort served for many years as the center of the kingdom. Today the forests have mostly recovered, blanketing the land in green and hiding the scars of the past. The sturdy folk of the Ashlands form the majority of the warriors who serve among the dragon riders, and Ash Fort itself remains the preeminent training ground for the military.
