The Staff Selection Commission, established at Ghawlama on 3.V.1720 AN and reporting to the First Secretary of State of Hurmu, is responsible for ensuring that all public officials (excepting Senators), appointed to any role whatsoever within Hurmu, are chosen on the basis of a professional examination of their competence, the vetting of their moral character for deficiencies so as to exclude any officeholder who might bring disgrace upon their role, and to ensure that no-one is appointed who does not profess the truth of the Highest Divinity and affirm their personal and total loyalty to the Senate of the Lakes.

The SSC also has a broad remit, on the authority of First Secretary, to dismiss from public office any officeholder who does not meet the aforementioned requirements of competence, propriety, and loyalty. Each State and District of Hurmu would subsequently receive a Board of Appointments, subordinate to the SSC, tasked with undertaking its functions, with delegated authority, in the localities.

Applicants cleared for appointment by the SSC must swear to perform their duties in accordance with the Brida.
