Political Factions of Gran Verionia
Political Factions of Gran Verionia are formed by the large variety of regional groups, parties and delegations that make up the Grand Council of Verionian States, the legislative parliament of Gran Verionia.
Delegación de Valentia
The Delegation of Valentia is the appointed delegation for the State of Valentia. It occupies 125 of the 126 seats that Valentia has in the Grand Council. The method of appointment is highly autocratic, with the Governor of Valentia having the full autonomy over the appointments. Because of its high number of representatives, the Delegation is the most influential faction within Gran Verionia. It is highly supportive of the Union and seeks to repress seperatist or regionalist movements. The Delegation is a member of the Unionist Coalition
Al-Wafd
Similar to the Delegation of Valentia, Al-Wafd (Toroshi, meaning the Delegation) is appointed. The members of Al-Wafd are appointed by a meeting of the She'ikhs of the Federated Tribes of Torosh, and occupy all 55 seats that Torosh has in the Grand Council. Al-Wafd is a highly traditionalist and conservative group. Its primary concern is the prevention of foreign influences into the South-West Keltian lands of the confederation.
Hizbusoufi
Hizbusoufi (Toroshi: حزبأسفي Ḥizb-us-Soufi), literally "Party of the Soufi") is a nationalist, secessionist and conservative political and religious movement within the State of Souf, the Southernmost State of Gran Verionia. The party was formed in 1675 in opposition to the cooperation of the merchants of Souf with the Verionist government.
The movement is currently the largest party in the Majlis an-Nuwwab, the parliament of Souf. However, the relative influence of the parliament is limited, and the Governor of Souf, Godolphin Viqh, is a member of the opposition Association of Merchants. The difference in representation and actual power leads to rising conflict within the Soufi state. Although the official ideology of Hizbusoufi is hard secessionism and opposition to the existence of the Gran Verionian confederation, it often presents itself as a pragmatic party. In the Grand Council of Verionian States, the party works together with loyalist groups such as Al-Wafd and the Partido Conservador in order to advance conservative and traditionalist principles.
Verionist Union
The Verionist Union is the only party that is active in multiple States. It has representatives from the Free City of Chryste as well as from the Kasterburg Republic. The VU is strongly supportive of the Union of 1682, and a founding member of the Unionist Coalition. It is Verionist, and promotes the values of the Round Table of Valarion.
Partido de Liberación Nacional
The Partido de Liberación Nacional (Party of National Liberation) is a political party in Los Liberados, where it is the governing party. It is closely alligned to the Junta de Liberación Nacional (National Liberation Council), the governing Junta of the islands, and its President Rodrigo Calderón Mendéz. In anticipation of the establishment of an elected legislature, the Junta formed the PLN in order to contest the upcoming elections.
The Party is broadly centrist, and has Liberadosan nationalism as its main ideology. It supports internationalism and cooperation in the Batavian Confederation and is a strong proponent of the Union of 1682. A big-tent party, it houses factions ranging from conservatism and corporatism to socialism. Political commentator Manuel Hablar described the party as "not so much ideological, but rather based on personality, either nationally or within the local communities". The PLN is strongly autocratic, and opposes any further democratic change in the country. The PLN is a founding member of the Micras Socialist International.
Starting from the Rodrigo Calderón Mendez Presidency, the PLN gradualy adopted a more socialist and interventionist policy under the name of Economia Liberada. With the adoption of major economic restructuring and nationalisations, the liberal wing of the party felt alienated and protested. This let the Junta de Liberación Nacional to suspend the 1678 party congress. In the subsequent elections, the PLN again won a majority of seats, and increased its share with one seat.
Association of Merchants
The Association of Merchants is a liberal group from the Mercantile Realm of Souf. It is unionist and secular, which sees it often in conflict with Hizbusoufi. Although the minority party in both the Soufi delegation and in the Majlis an-Nuwwab, the Association of Merchants forms the government of the Mercantile Realm. In addition, its leader Godolphin Viqh serves as the Washar of the Grand Council and was elected Supreme Director of the Confederated States of Gran Verionia in 1682.
Cambio Democratico
Cambio Democratico (Democratic Change) is the main opposition party of Los Liberados. The party was formed in 1672 in the run up to the 1673 elections for the Liberadosan unicameral parliament, the Asamblea Nacional de la República. Leader is Paula Ferraro, who previously led the Forward movement. The party promotes liberal values, and fights for more democracy in Los Liberados thereby directly going against the governing Junta. Another major issue is the rights of the Timaro people in the South of the country.
The party did well in the 1673 elections, where they won 40 seats, and became the main force of opposition against the government of President Jacobo Castrigo.
Following the assumption of the Presidency by Rodrigo Calderón, Cambio Democratico adopted economic liberalism in direct response to the policy of economia liberada. As a result, many business leaders, including Iron Company officials, shifted from the PLN and supported Ferraro's movement. Cambio Democratico also received financial support from foreign donors.
In the Grand Council of Verionian States, Cambio Democratico holds 14 out of 38 Liberadosan seats. The party is the main member of the Group for Democracy, a progressive opposition bloc within the Grand Council.
Princely Delegation
The Princely Delegation are the five members for the Capital Territory of Valarion. Unlike most Grand Council members, they are not politicians but rather government officials. They are primarily concerned with advancing the Union.
Kasterburger Volksbond
The Kasterburger Volksbond (Kasterburg People's League) is a conservative political group that is alligned with the government of Kasterburg.
Partido Conservador
The Partido Conservador (Conservative Party) is a political party from Los Liberados. Although initially the second party of the country, the Partido Conservador has lost much of its prominence lately. It mainly focuses on traditional family values.
Nationalist Coalition of Benacia
The Nationalist Coalition of Benacia is a conservative group from Chryste, which was formed as a merger of two small nationalist parties: the Elsenari Agrarian League and the Vanguard for Strength.
Syndicalist Front
The Syndicalist Front is, like the Nationalist Coalition, a merger of two parties from Chryste: the National Syndicalist Front and the Democratic Verionist Movement. Its ideology is broadly left-wing and pro-democratic.
Partido Fascista Republicano
The Partido Fascista Republicano (Fascist Republican Party) is a far-right political party from Los Liberados. It's mainly focused around the figure of General Pedro Forlán Martins, who is a charismatic politician with a large base around Calico.
Progressieve Alliantie
The Progressieve Alliantie (Progressive Alliance) is a liberal and pro-democratic political party from Kasterburg.
Sovereign Keraqi Front
The Sovereign Keraqi Front occupies the only seat of the State of Valentia that is not taken by the appointed Delegation. Following the conquest of Keraq, the final peace agreement stipulated that Keraq should have representation in the Grand Council. The SKF is opposed to the Union of 1682 and strives toward Keraqi autonomy.
Acción Popular de Timaro
The Acción Popular de Timaro (Popular Action of Timaro) is a regionalist movement from Los Liberados that represents the Timaro people in the South of the Republic. It does not want autonomy but instead fights for inclusion and non-discrimination of Timaro throughout the confederation but especially in Los Liberados.
Elsenari and Lunatic Union
The Elsenari and Lunatic Union is a political movement to represent the Lunatic and Elsenari minority in the Free City of Chryste.
