MTO Opinions

The General Assembly of the MTO can pass non-binding resolutions known as MTO Opinions that become the official stance of the MTO and General Assembly. While the outcome of the Opinions may generally align with the policies of MTO member nations, it is important to remember that MTO Opinions are non-binding, and do not necessarily reflect the positions of its member nations.

Condemnation of Chattel Slavery

The first Opinion passed by the General Assembly was a condemnation against the practice of chattel slavery. Discussion lasted from July 20, 2020, until July 27, 2020. Voting was conducted from July 27 until August 3, 2020, during which all votes were cast in favor of the Opinion. The exact text of the non-binding resolution is as follows: The General Assembly of the Micras Treaty Organization condemns the practice of chattel slavery. The Batavian delegation expressed support for the condemnation during debate but did not vote. The Ralgon delegation expressed concern over the condemnation during debate but also did not vote.
