Largoprato is a region of Vegno, located in the south-western section of the country, bordering South Coast to the south, the Region of Cossa and Compare to the east, Mhazar-Campoasciutto to the north, and Ponente to the north-west. The region comprises a population of about 234,991 people (on 1724 AN).
Its chief town is Scanzata.
Geography
The countryside is very flat: from the Largoprato plains that continue in the Campoasciutto hills. There are a lot of different national or regional parks; one of the most famous is the Gran Papasso National Park, between Largoprato e Mhazar-Campoasciutto
Largoprato has a typically temperate climate, which on the north becomes progressively temperate-cold. In northern areas, winters are relatively cold but not very rainy and often sunny, with the possibility of snowfall, sometimes abundant. In the southern areas, near to South Coast, summers are hot with local possibilities of strong thunderstorms..
Economy
Lowland Largoprato is a fertile agricultural region. The main agricultural products are cereals, including rice, representing more than 10% of national production, maize, grapes for wine-making, fruit and milk. With more than 800,000 head of cattle in 2000, livestock production accounts for half of total agricultural production.
Largoprato is one of the great winegrowing regions in Vegno.
Government and politics
The Regional Government (Giunta Regionale) is presided by the President of the Region (Presidente della Regione), who is elected for a five-year term. The Regional Council of Largoprato (Consiglio Regionale) is composed of 30 members and is elected with proportional representation plus a majority premium for the winning coalition. The Council is elected for a five-year term, but, if the President suffers a vote of no confidence, resigns or dies, under the simul stabunt vel simul cadent clause (introduced in 1704), also the Council will be dissolved and there will be a fresh election.
The last regional election was held in 1713 AN and saw the election of Antonio Munno, exponent of the Partito Nazionalista Vegnese party.
