Mataba Sailors Football Club, commonly referred to as The Sailors or MAS is an association football club competing in the Liga Mataba, the top tier of the Matabese football league system. Since its founding, the club has played all its games at the Jaran Besor Stadium in Jaran Besor.
MAS is one of the richest football clubs in Mataba, with its club owner being Phorest Pee, who also owns Kea Ltd.
History
Sailors of Mataba FC was originally founded by Tan Yi Long, before merging with Mataba FC in early 2022 to officially form Mataba Sailors FC Ltd.
When the Liga Mataba was formed in 2022, the club's initial application was a failure as the club was deemed financially unstable before being sold to Kea Ltd under Phorest Pee. The club would then sign a number of local and foreign talents in order to get ready for the upcoming season.
The Sailor Boys however went on a 4 game winless streak in the Liga Mataba and soon sacked manager Luca Lalej and his coaching staff following a disappointing 1-0 loss to Valestir Bahlsa in the league, finishing 8th in the standings before the January break. The team would hire Vegno manager Roberto Seno as their new head coach heading into 2023.
Mataba Sailors then spashed Cr 600k on Mattia Ferrari of Valenterosa FC on the 1st of January 2023, breaking records and making him the most expensive transfer a club from Mataba has ever paid for with Mattia signing a 3-year long deal to stay with the club and Mataba.
The Sailors made their All Dauian Cup debut in a 1-0 victory over Northern AA of the Daau League in the qualifiying rounds.
