During the founding of the Aerla, it was decided by the new government to make Noursala the new nation's capital. This came after a debate whether or not Noursala or [[Agalore]] should become the government's new home. Noursala (Commonspeak: Nörsale) is the capital and largest city within Aerla. It is the nation's most populous city, with around 338,000 inhabitants. The city is home to the seat of the National Assembly and the President. The city is located along the eastern end of a lake that shares the city's name.

The city is regarded as Aerla's transportation hub, containing the nation's only international airport, Noursala International Airport. The city also serves as the center of Aerla's economy and industry, serving as host to the many industrial plants, such as the Noursala Military-Industrial Company.

History

The area around Lake Noursala has been inhabited since the first people's settled in the valleys of Aerla. For centuries, migratory tribes settled around the lake. The first permanent settlement was a Karnali temple named Ṭhūlōpahāḍa (lit. "Great Hill"). The temple remained in operation until it's destruction by a Hatayyian army in the early 1500s AN, with it's population either slaughtered or fleeing into the surrounding mountains. With the Lake Noursala watershed being incorporated into the Shahdad region, settlers began to construct several new settlements from the ruins of the old temple. The most prominent village, Salah ad-Nour meaning "Righteous of the Light" (this name would eventually be shortened into Noursalah, leading the the modern spelling of the name). In the coming years, Salah ad-Nour would subsume the surrounding villages of Al-Haqf, Jizala, and Al-Faghada (all of which now form some of the modern bereaus of the city) to become the premiere economic center for the Central Keltian Highlands.

The city was sacked numerous times before the foundation of Aerla. The city first came under attack from a Ranentsian warlord known as "Stefan the Despot" some time in the early 1610 ANs. The area around Lake Noursala thereafter became his fiefdom until around 1617 AN, when he was driven out of the city. In the 1660 ANs the city was attacked by a roving Vanic warband, known as the Langskipvarðlið (Longship Guards), from the Storish Duchy of Østfold. Many inhabitants of the city were either slaughtered or sold into slavery. The warband only held the city of the span of a couple of months, before heading back to Storish-held territory to the east. The city was also then attacked by the Neo-Adamites but it was successfully driven back with great cost to the city.

During the founding of the Aerla, it was decided by the new government to make Noursala the new nation's capital. This came after a debate whether or not Noursala or Agalore should become the government's new home. Noursala was chosen as it contained a greater population and more geographically centered then Agalore. This move led to the economy of the area booming, and the quality of life vastly improving.
