University of Cossa (Università degli Studi di Cossa, in Vegnian), abbreviated as UniCo, is a state university located in the city of Cossa and founded in 1707 AN.

History

After the Vegnese Second War of Independence in 1705 AN, and in anticipation of an emerging government, priority was given to the design of a large state university. Its construction, in addition to educating the youth of the current Republic of Vegno, created numerous job opportunities for the residents of Cossa. The decision to build the university in Timpone Rosso, a city located in one of the most notorious outskirts of Cossa after the fall of the Gralan Empire , symbolizes the emerging Vegno's desire to establish a state capable of revitalizing the territory under its control.

Visual Identity

The visual identity of the University of Cossa is a distinctive representation that embodies the institution's core values and heritage. At the heart of this identity are five bold, parallel red lines, symbolizing the institution's unwavering commitment to progress and excellence. These lines are not only a visual representation of the university's forward momentum but also a nod to the vibrant energy that flows through its academic corridors. Accompanying these dominant red lines are two smaller, yet equally significant, gray lines. These gray lines signify the university's dedication to inclusivity and diversity, reminding us that the institution welcomes individuals from all backgrounds and walks of life. Beneath these gray lines lies a striking black triangle, representing the foundation of knowledge upon which the University of Cossa is built. It serves as a reminder that education is the cornerstone of personal and societal growth.

Campus

The campus covers an area of approximately 200 hectares on the hills of Timpone Rosso, a municipality located within the urban area of Cossa. The university complex takes the form of a long causeway, roughly two kilometers in length, that spans the valley of the Eiano River. The causeway consists of reinforced concrete structures and includes a vehicular lane as well as a pedestrian walkway. The causeway is named the 'Pietro Buccino Bridge', in memory of the engineer who made the project designed by Renzo Veloce possible. The buildings of the various university departments are cube-shaped and thirty meters high. They connect to the horizontal structure of the causeway, varying in height depending on the changes in the hills of Timpone Rosso.

The campus is divided into ten neighborhoods: Chiodo 1, Chiodo 2, Maisonnettes, Martensson A, Martensson B, Molicelle, Monaci, Nervoso, San Gennaro, Socrates; alongside these is the De Lieto residence.

Each neighborhood has a common center where various activities are organized, and it is served by the dining facilities of the Martensson and Maisonnettes neighborhoods. In addition to these, there are two more dining facilities, only active during lunchtime, located inside the multifunctional building and in Vermicelli Square.

Libraries

The University manages a system of three libraries, each dedicated to a disciplinary area:

  • Interdepartmental Library of Economic and Social Sciences: Established in 1706 AN as a result of the merger of the libraries of the departments of political economy, organizational management, and public administration, sociology, and political science. In 1710 AN, it was named after the economist Ezio Tatariello.
  • Library of the Technical-Scientific Area: Founded in 1706 AN through the conversion of the former central library.
  • Library of the Humanities Area: Established in 1715 AN and later named after Franco Ernesto Cormorano, a philosophy professor who passed away prematurely.
