A view of the City of Beaufort at night.

Beaufort is the capital of North Lyrica, a region of Nouvelle Alexandrie. It was the first settlement of Nouvelle Alexandrie after the Lyrican Republic collapsed, and is named after explorer Jacques de Beaufort. It is the sixth most populous city of the Federation. It has a population of 324,921 (1710 AN). It sits at the coast of O'Rea Strait.

The city has strong historical and cultural connections to the Lyrican people. Nouvelle Alexandrie used it as the major base to conquer the rest of the island. It still remains a vital administrative capital, and is unofficially the capital of the whole island, not only the North. It is known for its port and having the only international airport on the island, while also having a thriving tourist economy. Much of its economic power also comes from oil and gas operations east of its coast.

Administration

The city of Beaufort is governed by the State of Vinveil, a state in the region of North Lyrica. The city is subdivided into Wards.

Garrison

The city's connections with the Federal Forces of Nouvelle Alexandrie date back to the Pacification of Lyrica, begun in 1685 AN. The naval dockyard at Beaufort serves as the main anchorage and station of the Apollonian Fleet, whilst the Federal Army cantonments located on the northern and eastern edges of the city houses the 9th Demi-Brigade, 17th Regiment, and 18th Regiment of the Alexandrian Legion, alongside the Operational Manoeuvre Group (North) attached to the 210th Army.

Education

A Grand Institute of Public Policy was inaugurated in the city in 1714 AN, providing a venue for the training of administrative cadres throughout the Region of North Lyrica.

The Humanist Grammarian School, providing a selection and merit based education for the children of Federal Humanist Party (FHP) regional sector cadre members, was licenced by the regional authorities in 1721 AN. Although fee paying, the cost of enrolling an eligible child was subsidised by bursaries arranged through the Humanist Vanguard and the Central Secretariat of the FHP.
