Benacian North Sea Tour 1753

The Benacian North Sea Tour of 1753 was an exploratory and goodwill mission of the Benacian Union to the ports and coastline of the Northern Sea of Apollonia that commenced in the early months of 1753 AN, having first assembled at Chryse.

At the command of the First Consul, all realms and institutions of the Union-State were invited to contribute a ship and their most learned and distinguished personages to bring the light of Benacian culture and civilisation to the far north shores of Apollonia.

The key objectives of the tour would be the advancement of trade, diplomacy, and scientific and technological exchange. In many respects the tour would represent the relaunch of the Benacian Union on the international stage following the constitutional reforms of 1752.

Security for the flotilla of fraternal amity would be provided by a small task group from the Maritime Forces of the Benacian Union, which would remain in international waters except in the instance of a scheduled visit to a port under the authority of an allied government.

Sovereign Confederation

The Sovereign Confederation contributed the airship SC Ałiturak (Forgiver), a state-of-the-art dirigible equipped with the latest analog computing technology for aerial observation, atmospheric research, and long-range reconnaissance. The vessel carried a delegation of distinguished scientists, computing specialists, and cultural representatives selected by the Miþuï to showcase the Confederation's technical achievements and cultural sophistication while providing aerial support and oversight for the flotilla's journey.

The Ałiturak represented the Confederation's dual commitment to scientific advancement and cultural sophistication. The airship's analog computing suite, manufactured by GleamCo that had recently commited to itself to the Union's momentous Charter Implementation project, demonstrated the practical applications of Confederation technology in navigation, weather prediction, and communications. The vessel's aerial vantage point allowed it to scout ahead for the flotilla, provide advanced warning of weather conditions, and conduct atmospheric research while documenting the journey through aerial photography and cartography.

The airship's name, "Forgiver" in Præta, served to reflect the Confederation's self-image as a realm of second chances and cultural renewal. The cultural delegation included representatives from Sovereign institutes, artists and musicians to perform at diplomatic receptions, and computing theorists to lecture on analog computation theory. Speakers of the Miþuï accompanied the mission to conduct diplomatic consultations and assess opportunities for expanded engagement with Apollonian states.

The Ałiturak would coordinate with the flotilla while maintaining the freedom to range ahead, conduct aerial surveys of ports before the fleet's arrival, and provide real-time intelligence and weather data to Task Group 1.1's command staff. Its ability to overfly territory and observe coastal features from the air made it invaluable for both the exploratory and diplomatic aspects of the mission.
