"The Green" refers to unclaimed areas (the Micras nullius) in the world of Micras, as indicated on maps maintained by the Micras Cartography Society (MCS).
The Green is defined by the absence of recognized government control, resulting in a state of statelessness for those who reside there. The Green is often dominated by marauding tribes, nomadic groups, and so-called "land reavers." Nations often lead expeditions into the Green, often engaging in violence against these groups to assimilate them into their territories. These expeditions, often led by "land reavers," can result in great disturbance to the Green and often perpetuate its chaos and anarchy.
Living in the Green means a lack of access to basic services like police and banks, forcing many to resort to criminal activities to survive. The absence of government control creates a power vacuum, which various factions compete to fill, resulting in frequent battles and further instability. Borders with the Green can be particularly volatile, leading to skirmishes with nations.
Despite the challenges, some choose to live in the Green as a means of escape from society's constraints or in pursuit of new freedoms and opportunities.
