The 1670 Joint Military Exercise of the Jingdaoese-Alriggian Alliance was an exercise held by the Imperial Armed Forces of the Jingdaoese Empire and the Alriggian Republic in the year 1670 AN. Goal of the exercise was to test whether the Jingdaoese Empire was able to assist the Alriggian Republic in time in the case of a Shirerithian attack from the territory of the Florian Republic.

Course of the exercise

The Jingdaoese 22nd Armoured Corps, simulating a Shirerithian armored division launched an attack on the Alriggian capital of Driftwood from the most northern point of Alrig. As soon as the first troops were sighted by the Alriggian armed forces, a call to arms was sent to the 19th and 20th Armoured Corps located in Changzhi and Qianyan respectively. As the Jingdaoese troops hurried over the Imperial Autobahn 1 towards Driftwood, the vastly outnumbered Alriggian armed forces engaged in guerrilla and delay tactics. Alriggian forces faced heavy losses but were able to stall the 'Shirerithian' advance by blowing up bridges, mining roads, and attacking the Shirerithians in narrow passes, until the Jingdaoese armor was able to provide assistance. The exercise was stopped when both sides made contact north of Driftwood.

Analysis and aftermath

The exercise provided valuable lessons to both the Jingdaoese and Alriggian forces. On the Jingdaoese side, entry ramps towards the Imperial Autobahn were widened so that multiple semi-trucks carrying the Dolstier I MBT and Lucinspire Heavy Tanks could be able to enter at once. The Alriggian Republic learned its northern villages were more exposed to the Shirerithian menace than anticipated and started a project arming minutemen with AT-launchers in those territories. Farm roads, and other roads of secondary commercial use, in northern Alrig were made narrower with concrete blocks to make them less practical for armored invaders. The overall conclusion was however that the Jingdaoese-Alriggian Alliance was strong and efficient enough to deter an attack on Alrig.

Political implications

While not personally leading the exercise, Field Marshal Tzao Yao proclaimed it a victory over defeatist feelings within politics.

Jingdao

The simulation proved to be a political victory of the Gunbatsu: Field Marshal Tzao Yao, considered a hero since the War of Lost Brothers, used the exercise to show his opponents within his faction that his troops were still capable of acting swift in times of need. He made use of the momentum to denounce defeatists and pacifists within the government, pointing out that any enemy threat could have been subdued even faster with more financial support. The Kantai-ha suffered politically, as it saw itself increasingly isolated from any decision-making. The Diwang, Zhang San, was forced to recognise the successes made by the Army to modernise and was increasingly losing control over his own faction, the Gunbatsu, which became more and more Army-oriented.

Alrig

The hundreds of Jingdaoese tanks rolling over the Imperial Autobahn made a deep impression in Alrig. They confirmed president Hieronim Erazm's pro-Jingdaoese politics in particular and the 'special relationship' between Alrig and Jingdao in general. The exercise also eased concerns about the Florian Republic's expansion towards the Alriggian border.
