Plans to connect the cities of Sankt Ludwigshafen with modern roads were first made after 1693 after the Stadtparlement abandoned the maximum width of 88cm for roads. After the elections in 1699 the Traditional Party was more unified on the issue of infrastructural modernisation. With the Stadtparlement still dominated by the Traditional Party, swift action was taken after the moratorium ended in 1700.
