Walstadt and Light

Walstadt and Light is a jurisdiction of the Aemilian Federation, added to the federation in 1743 following the ratification of the Treaty of Sankt Rosa in which Natopia ceded Whales to the Aemilian Federation in exchange for Felsbrücken. The jurisdiction considers itself the restoration of the Principality of Walstadt, and succeeds the Natopian Principality of Whales. The capital city of Walstadt and Light is Volksburg, which is also the seat of its government.
Demographics and languages
There are 3.2 million people in Walstadt and Light, of which 2.8 million people have Cibolan-Saxon as their native language. Out of those people, 2.3 million came to Walstadt and Light after the ratification of the Treaty of Sankt Rosa and are considered to have returned from the Ludwiggian diaspora that started in the early 1600's. They come from all parts of the former republic of Sankt Ludwigshafen. Approximately 0.3 million people have Sangunese as their native language, less than 0.1 million people speak Batavian or Istvanistani. The official language of Walstadt and Light is Cibolan-Saxon, written in the Ludwiggian script. Minority languages like Sangunese, Batavian, and Istvanistani are taught to all school kids.
Local government
Like the other jurisdictions of the Aemilian Federation, Walstadt and Light is divided into cities with their countryside, these are governed by a senate elected by all citizens of that city and countryside. An exception is the Lordship of Penguinfels, which is the sole remaining lordship according to the old feudal system of governance that existed in the Natopian era.
