Vermian Recalibration System

The Vermian Recalibration System was a classification framework created by the National Salvation Council of Oportia in XII.1744 AN to systematically identify and remove government officials associated with the deposed Administration of Marcel Vermeuil. Named after the former Federal Representative (a naming convention that ironically associated corruption with Vermeuil himself), the system established clear protocols for different levels of government employees based on their perceived loyalty to the previous regime and allegations of corruption. Military "administrative security teams" used this three-tier classification to execute the purges with precision, processing over 1,200 individuals within the first month of implementation. The system allowed the Council to maintain essential government functions while methodically replacing key personnel, with particularly extensive restructuring occurring within the judicial system and local governments of major cities. Civil society organizations later criticized the Vermian Recalibration System as a mechanism for political repression disguised as anti-corruption reform.

Vermian Recalibration System Classification Tiers
Category Target Level Action Taken
Category A High-level officials with direct ties to Vermeuil Immediate detention and investigation
Category B Mid-level officials suspected of corruption or obstruction Suspension pending investigation
Category C Lower-level employees requiring "political re-evaluation" Monitoring and potential reassignment

Implementation

The Vermian Recalibration System was implemented across all government ministries and agencies beginning on 26.XII.1744 AN. Administrative security teams arrived at government offices with pre-prepared lists categorizing employees. Category A officials were immediately removed and replaced with military appointees or vetted technocrats, while Category B officials were placed on administrative leave. Category C employees, the most numerous group, continued working under supervision and required to attend "civic reorientation seminars." By 10.I.1745 AN, the system had been applied to approximately 23,000 government employees nationwide, with approximately 5% classified as Category A, 12% as Category B, and 83% as Category C.

Consequences

By I.1745 AN, the implementation of the Vermian Recalibration System had resulted in the detention of approximately 1,200 individuals, primarily Category A officials. The system contributed significantly to the exodus of approximately 1,673 Oportians to neighboring countries, including Nouvelle Alexandrie, Natopia, Constancia, and Zeed. While officially temporary, many Category B suspensions became permanent, with suspended officials never formally charged but not permitted to return to their positions. The system was officially discontinued in XI.1745 AN when the National Salvation Council declared the "administrative purification" complete, though informal political vetting of public employees continued.
