Shintakushima

Shintakushima (新宅島; Saxon: Szintakuszima) is an island, lordship and province of the Principality of Whales. Previously inhabited by Birgeshir, the island was deserted in 1684–1685 after several natural calamities. The Two Martyrs claimed the island, with support from Natopia, and began studying the intense and instable localized geology of the island. Confused by why the island would keep causing volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, despite there not being any "reason" for it, Two Martyrs lady Áþamé Issèla Mari Vāstra, a safir herself, sought help from the Safir Alliance. Scientists from this Alliance then began studying the island and found use of their terraforming technology in stabilizing it.

Many of the Safirian scientists, and their families, fell in love with the island and its unique geology and post-calamity geography, and decided to stay. Thus, they created the first safir colony and Safirian community on Micras since the Safirian Exodus of 1663 (which saw the mass emigration of safir and other Safirians from Micras). They established their new settlement in the ruins of the former Birgesh capital Otaq, now renamed O-Taku (御宅, Sangunese for "home"), a name chosen to honour both the Birgesh people and their former Micran capital of greatness, and the idea of this island being the new home for the safir and Safirian peoples on Micras. The island was then officially named Shintakushima by the House of Nobles, meaning "new home island" in Sangunese.

According to the census of 1694, it has a population of 84,891 persons, making it the 2nd largest lordship in population. Its population is divided into 35,943 registered Sangunese speakers, 19,736 registered Āirumāli speakers, 9,618 registered Thraci speakers, 8,169 registered Saxon speakers, 891 registered Batavian speakers, and 10,534 registered speakers of other languages.
