Prime Minister of Moorland
The Prime Minister of Moorland, also known as the Witan Chief, is the head of government of the Kingdom of Moorland. The Prime Minister chairs the Moorland Witan, leads the Cabinet, and is responsible for coordinating government policy. The office was established with the founding of the kingdom in 1718 AN, though the first Prime Minister was not elected until 1719 AN when the first open elections for parliament were held. During the intervening year, King Alpin MacMartin governed directly while the constitutional framework was established. The Prime Minister is formally appointed by the monarch following elections to the Witan. By convention, the monarch appoints the leader of the party or coalition commanding a majority in the chamber.
Moorlander law historically limited Prime Ministers to three consecutive four-year terms. This restriction was circumvented by Robin Wakeham through constitutionally dubious "continuing motions" from 1731 AN until his removal in 1752 AN. The current Prime Minister is Albert Travercraig, who was appointed by King Alpin MacMartin under the Gracious Edict of 1752. Travercraig leads the Homeland and Heritage Party, which holds 117 of 121 seats in the Witan. The forthcoming election mandated by the Gracious Edict of 1752 will be the first general election since 1731 AN.
