The President of the Republic of Cisamarra is the head of state and head of government of Cisamarra. The office was formed in 1700 following the election of the first president after Cisamarran independence. Considered by some to be one of the most powerful directly elected offices on Micras, the constitutional provisions regulating the office were ordered by Gjanluigi Vinfetto.
The Republic of Cisamarra is a presidential system with an exceptionally powerful president. The president alone chooses the members of the cabinet, who are responsible to him. They have the duty of arbitrating the functioning of government authorities. The president promulgates laws, and may veto entire laws, parts of laws and items in the budget. A presidential veto can be overridden by a two-thirds majority vote by the entire membership of the Congress of the Republic. The president may dissolve the Congress of the Republic at any time for any reason. The president is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Cisamarra. The president also names most senior officials, judges, ambassadors and other officeholders, without confirmation by the Congress. The president also promulgates the decrees of the cabinet and may grant pardons and amnesties. The president may declare martial law subject to the approval of the Congress.
The Speaker of the Congress of the Republic serves as acting president following the death, removal or resignation of the president.
