The Congresso della Repubblica (Cisamarran for Congress of the Republic) is the unicameral legislature of Cisamarra. The Congress consists of 149 Members of Congress (MC) and is headed by the President of the Congress. The first election took place in 1702 in single-member constituencies using the first-past-the-post voting system. The legislative power of the Republic is explicitly vested in the Congress, while the President may introduce legislation as well. All acts of the Congress must be signed by the President, unless he utilises his right of veto. However, the Congress can override a presidential veto by a two-thirds majority vote. Since the Congress took office in 1703, it has been dominated by the party of President Vinfetto, Forza Cisamarra. The main opposition party is the Partito Popolare Cisamarrese. In the second election 1707, Forza Cisamarra increased its majority to 102 seats, while the communist opposition party extended their tally to eight seats, both at the expense of the Partito Popolare Cisamarrese.
