The Plein fonn Versoening (Crandan: Plein fonn Versoening, "Reconciliation Square") is a memorial square in the Kroonkwartier of Johannsessbuurg, the capital of the Free Duchy of Anglien. It occupies approximately 1.8 hectares on the cleared site of the former NKR Governing Board complex, from which the Nü Krantisk Repüblik governed Anglien during the occupation of 1752 AN to 1754 AN. The square is the Free Duchy's principal memorial to the victims of NKR rule.

Establishment

The NKR Governing Board had occupied a fortified complex in central Johannsessbuurg, built on the site of cleared Lac Glaceian government offices. Pederr Hinneemik, the Forevetiz, and several surviving Governing Board members were captured during the coalition assault on the complex in VIII.1754 AN, in the closing days of the Phase 7 siege.

The complex was demolished within weeks of the promulgation of the Charter of Anglien on 15.X.1754 AN. The demolition and the dedication of the cleared ground as a memorial space reflected the accountability-first posture of the early transitional period. The square was dedicated on 12.IV.1755 AN, the second anniversary of Edgard III's formal statement on the Anglien persecution.

Description

The memorial wall runs along the eastern boundary of the square and bears the names of those known to have been killed during the 1752 AN–1754 AN occupation. Names are inscribed in Crandish, Mala'anje, Anglo-Saksen, or Alexandrian, depending on the community of the deceased. The wall is organized by category of victim, with sections for the Mala'anje community of the Mala'anje-haven and Kloss, the Alexandrian Nazarene clergy and laity, the Crandish dissenters and former Lac Glaceian officials, and the Anglo-Saksen civil servants targeted as collaborators with the pre-occupation administration. New names are added periodically as TRCA proceedings establish additional victims.

The square's central feature is a low circular reflecting pool surrounded by a paved area used for memorial ceremonies. A small interpretive pavilion at the western edge hosts rotating exhibitions on the history of the NKR period and the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. No commercial activity is permitted in the square, and the building lots that surrounded the demolished Governing Board complex have been left vacant pending the conclusion of the transitional period and the determination of permanent uses by the Diet.

The square is bounded on its eastern side by the Palace of the Crown, the official residence of the Sovereign Duke, which overlooks the memorial.

Administration

The square is maintained by the Plein fonn Versoening trust, which also administers, jointly with the relevant community council, the separate Mala'anje-haven memorial to the NKR-era dead of the Johannsessbuurg Mala'anje community, dedicated on 1.III.1755 AN.
