Pius II, known before taking up the office of Patriarch - or pope - within the Catologian Church as Peter Ian Bursau, was a leading clergyman within the Holy Catologian Church, an attempt to unite the diverse branches of Catologism, which was part of the political ambitions of the House of Vinandy. He granted the title of duke to the catologian adventurer Nicholas des Vinandy-Windsor, in which was known as the Donation of Pius in 1675.
A more political stance
Even though the clergy retained a strong position throughout the Kingdom's history, even during the stateless period, Pius lamented the decline of church influence in the cultural and religious areas of the nation. The Batavian Revolution, which was both revolutionary and anticlerical, shocked Pius and made up him take a more active stance.
After 1685, Pius started playing a more important role in politics. With the appointment of a new king, Pius was widely lauded for his protest against the nomination of a foreigner (Salome of Shireroth) as new queen. Especially from Vinandists, he received praises, while other politicians accepted the argument that a Batavian king should rule from 's Koningenwaarde, or at least from within the kingdom itself. During the Blanckenhof Akkoorden, an agreement was reached, nominating the foreign monarch as staatshouder (stateholder) instead of queen.
