The Percy National Curling Center (Alexandrian: Centre national Percy de curling; Aspiranto: Nacia Glitŝtonludo-Centro Percy) is a multi-purpose indoor arena dedicated to the icesports in Alexandretta, Meckelnburgh. It opened in 1674 AN at a cost of 21 million M₵K.
The center has a capacity of 5,850 in its fullest mode, after an expansion in 1697 AN. It is one of the largest dedicated curling centers on Micras. It operates alongside the Prince Valoro Curling & Icestock Center in Fríða for national events.
Operation
Percy National Curling Center is operated by Royal Curling Meckelnburgh in the Alexandretta Regional Association. It is the home of the Meckelnburgh national curling team, also used by the Alexandretta Curling Club. It is one facility in the Central Alexandretta Sportspark, along with Thomas Memorial field, the home of the Meckelnburgh national football team, and the Alexandretta Ice Gymnasium, the home for skating sports in Meckelnburgh.
The center is most used for the regional Alexandretta bonspiels and the annual national championships, the Superspiels, but is also used by local club and events. In 2021 CE, it was designated as the home venue of the 2021 Curling World Championship, hosted by Meckelnburgh, as part of the 2020–21 Micras Games.
Facilities
The main floor of Percy National Curling Center is dedicated to curling, to avoid the ice degradation that comes skating and other uses of the ice sheets. Four sheets can be accommodated in its largest spectator mode, while up to eight sheets for smaller audiences in regional events with more teams.
Beneath the main floor is a pair of ice rinks. One accommodates local skaters, and another for hockey players, used for practice, in pickup games and by amateur leagues. This lower level has a capacity of 450 for hockey events and skating demonstrations.
The grounds of the center also serve as the national headquarters of the Royal Meckelnburgh Curling Association, the national curling team, and the subsidiary collegiate and Alexandretta associations.
Naming
Percy National Curling Center is named after Sir Clyde Percy, Bt., the first president of the Curling League of Meckelnburgh. The baronet was a crucial figure in the formalization of the curling sports in Meckelnburgh, allowing them to flourish and develop into the nationwide institution of today.
