Nururfiskaravik, usually shortened to Fiskarvik, is a Hurmu town and port along the northern coast of the Lake District. It is Hurmu's most important port in the Lake District. Known as Anhira 1555–1571 during the Safirian occupation of Hurmu, in honour of the Safirian capital in Firnerámnen.

Fittingly, the port of Fiskaravik has served as the main landing point for catches by the Hurmudan fishing fleet in the Lake District since 1690 AN. In consequence a large number of processing centres and canneries have grown up behind the inlet and the road leading to the nearest railhead, employing a considerable proportion of the city's 531,853 population.

Name

The name Nururfiskaravik (sometimes written Nururfiskarvik) is made of three parts, nurur-, fiskara-, and -vik. The first part, nurur-, comes from the Nurur tribe which traditionally counts the coastline there as its territory. Fiskara- means "fishermen's", and -vik means "inlet". As such, the name can be translated as the "Nurur Fishermen's Bay/Inlet". Usually, the last -a of fiskara is silent, and also commonly, Nurur- is ommitted. As such, the most common name of the town is Fiskarvik (Fishermen's inlet/bay).

Garrison and security

The port is garrisoned by the 6th Port and Maritime Regiment of the Hurmu Fyrð (formerly Hurmu Peace Corps), which has responsibility for logistics and security duties pertaining to the inlet and its associated anchorages. The regiment reports to the Department of the Sea.
