The Normandokarum Fyrd is a regional military formation of the Hurmu Fyrd, the unified armed forces of the Order of the Holy Lakes. It is part of Hurmu Fyrð. It was officially established in 1745 AN following the incorporation of the Normandie Revolt Army (NRA) into Hurmu’s military command structure during the height of regional conflict in Karum and Normandie.

History

The formation of the Normandokarum Fyrd was a direct result of geopolitical shifts during the Fall ov Karum (1745), when the Normandie Revolt Army—a previously independent anti-Vanic resistance force—chose to integrate into the broader Hurmu Fyrd in order to secure strategic coordination and access to resources. This unification was sanctioned by the Senate of the Lakes and marked a rare instance of external forces being absorbed into Hurmu's historically insular military tradition.

Since its formation, the Normandokarum Fyrd has played a vital role in maintaining order and resisting Vanic resurgence in the fragile territories of Karum, where social unrest and territorial disputes persist. It remains one of the largest sub-formations within the Hurmu Fyrd, with an active manpower of approximately 101,424 troops as of 1745, including both professional soldiers and locally organized levies.

Role and Responsibilities

The primary mission of the Normandokarum Fyrd is the defense of the Karum territories, a geopolitically significant yet strategically vulnerable region. The province of Karum is bordered by rival factions, Vanic splinter states, and insurgent groups such as the Norman Brothers. Due to its weak civilian infrastructure and proximity to recent conflict zones, Karum relies heavily on this fyrd for security, law enforcement, and border protection.

Beyond its regional defense role, the Fyrd also participates in broader Hurmu military operations, joint exercises, and peacekeeping assignments when authorized by the Senate of the Lakes. However, its operational autonomy is greater than that of most Hurmu formations due to its unique history and geographic specificity.

Equipment and structure

The Normandokarum Fyrd suffers from persistent issues of equipment obsolescence, as much of its arsenal is composed of military surplus from the Storish era, including outdated personal weapons, armored vehicles, and artillery. While some modernization efforts have been made in coordination with Hurmu central command, budgetary constraints and logistical bottlenecks continue to hinder progress.

Its central headquarters is located in Quimper, a major cultural and administrative center in northern Normandie. From there, the Fyrd coordinates seven major garrison commands.

Organization

The Normandokarum Fyrd is structured into several brigades and reserve corps, often organized along geographic lines. Units are a mix of regular troops, Norman volunteers, and integrated Karumi militias. Due to the fluid nature of regional conflict, the structure is semi-modular and designed for rapid redeployment within Karum.
