The Marauders are the most important group of supporters of the Gerenia national football team. The group was founded in early 2016 and has since rapidly grown in terms of membership and also gained influence in the Gerenian media.
The Marauders can be easily recognised at the games by their constant, loud chanting, and their huge banners, which often have the names of the cities they come from.
History
The Marauders were officially founded on January 2016, although they began organising in 2014, when the leaders of the ultras groups Mananseranes, 18 North and The Red Warriors planned to form a single group to support the national team of Gerenia. They began organising themselves to attend the games together the following year, on time for the World Cup qualifiers. The venue rotation policy of Gerenia, by which the homes game are played at different stadiums across the country, helped the supporters gain visibility. Some fans at the stadiums began calling them "merry chanters" because they chanted during the entire game and embraced one another every time the team scored a goal. The group then began being known as the "Merry Chanters" (Gerenian: Svaretöre Feranes).
By the end of 2015, the group adopted a decentralised structure, which various "regional" sub-groups. Finally, on 2 January 2016, they founded an official society named "Marauders", which was the former nickname of the national team (the team's current nickname, besides Sailromes, is Golden Eagles). Soon after their foundation, the Marauders became even more notorious by travelling with the national team to the stadiums before every game, and even going to away games in the same airplane. This has become a custom, like organising colorful "receptions" at the Heinrič Täeter International Airport for the players that come from outside the country to play for the national team.
Rules
The Marauders claim to have a few rules to gain/maintain membership:
1. Being a member of a Gerenian club's supporter group;
2. Chant during the entire game no matter the circumstances;
3. Wear blue at games.
When a new member is accepted, they have to swear they will do "anything for Gerenia", which is the Marauders' motto.
