Kroningsdag (Coronation Day) was the official holiday in the Kingdom of Batavia. Even though the Kingdom is no longer an independent nation, the day remains a popular folk festival. The holiday takes place on the fourth day of the new year, the day on which King Arkadius II des Vinandy took office as King and the Second Kingdom of Batavia officially began. The day remained the same, even after the passing of the King.

National Tattoo

In 1536 AN, the National Tattoo was organized for the first time by then Stadtholder Gustaaf Vermeylen. Arkadiusplein in 's Koningenwaarde then became the setting for a military parade and music show. It remained so in the following years, with smaller-scale events in the major Batavian cities. In 1548, the National Tattoo was held once not on Kroningsdag, but on the Day of the Free Batavian States. This edition was organized by the working group Bátávieju swinkt (Batavia Swings).

The following year the tattoo was organized again on Coronation Day. This time Gustaaf Vermeylen again took the lead. King Arkadius II des Vinandy gave a short speech before the festivities began.
