The Karabiner 1758 is a weapon that was developed by Waffenschmiederei Ludwigshafen as a cheaper version of the Maschinenkarabiner 1754. The weapon is a bolt-action rifle that is chambered for the Standardpatrone 5.56 PRIMA. Design work on the began in 1754 when the Lanzerwalder Volksarmee decided to only buy the Maschinenkarabiner 1754 for fighting units and keep the RepetierbĂźchse 1699 for units in support roles. Like the RepetierbĂźchse 1699, the Karabiner 1758 features an internal magazine with a capacity of 6 cartridges that can be loaded using a stripper clip but thanks to the PRIMA standard ammunition it is more easily integrated into the supply chain of the Volksarmee and it is also much lighter.
