Hammond is a Mercurian city in the state of May. It is the most northern city on mainland Mercury, with the sea to the east, and Clarkson to the south.

Culture

Hammond contains many museums and art galleries, being classed by some as the cultural centre of May. It also is the home of the National Symphony Orchestra, who play at concerts and state occasions across the nation. It is the home town of the architect Reanna Latham, and the poet Charles Liltworth.

Mercury Military Museum

Over 2000 artifacts from around Micras from armies and battles are held in the Mercury Military Museum, including a collection of over a hundred different types of sword, a full set of armour from every nation with an active army, and a well as a variety of weapons from archaelogical sites across Mercury.

Symphony Hall

Home of the National Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Hall hosts not only regular classical music concerts, but a variety of comedians and theatrical productions, including its annual pantomines, which attract audiences from around the state.

May State Art Gallery

A collection of art through the ages is housed in the five-storey May State Art Gallery, with its prominent blue domed roof and columned exterior. One of the floors is taken up by recent pieces by the students at the University of Mercury, and other floors house statues and paintings from more established artists.

University of Mercury

Marine Biology

The University of Mercury has its marine biology centre in Hammond, and research is performed by undergraduates with the use of the university's four boats, and extensive diving and detection equipment. Although such research goes on across a wide range of areas of sea around Mercury, the diversity of marine life in the sea west of Hammond makes it useful as a training ground for the students and, despite having been studied heavily in recent years, new discoveries continue to be made about the local flora and fauna.

Art and History of Art

The main art campus of the University of Mercury is located in the west of Hammond, although various university owned buildings are scattered around the city. Some of the students' work is displayed in the May State Art Gallery, and it is considered an honour to have a piece permanently on display there.

White Queen Railway Station

The only railway station in Hammond, the White Queen Railway Station is the most northern station on Mercury, where the railway network begins. It, along with the linked station, the Black Queen Railway Station in the city of May, displays work from local artists hoping to raise their profile, and has a chessboard patterned floor.
