Héctor Colón y La Verdad is a Boriqueña band from Hato Rey, Boriquén, led by vocalist Héctor Colón and pianist and musical director Ramón "Moncho" Figueroa. Formed in 1745 AN, the group became one of the most influential acts in Boriqueña music through a combination of innovative arrangements, socially conscious lyrics, and Colón's distinctive vocal style. Their sound draws on traditional Boriqueña rhythms while incorporating elements from across the Keltian musical diaspora, anchored by Figueroa's piano montunos and the tight brass section that has become the group's signature. The band's name, meaning "The Truth" in Martino, reflects their commitment to addressing social and political realities in their music.
La Verdad rose to prominence in the late 1740s with a string of successful recordings that established them as leaders of the Boriqueña consciente movement, a style that combines danceable rhythms with lyrics addressing issues of inequality, community solidarity, and political struggle. Their most famous song, "El Milagro" (1753 AN), recounting the story of Father Antoine Deschamps and the Miracle of Bergbuurg, became an anthem of solidarity with those suffering under Nü Krantisk Rapskaff persecution and spread beyond Nouvelle Alexandrie to Natopia, where it contributed to public pressure for intervention. The band continues to perform regularly at festivals and clubs throughout Boriquén and the wider Federation, and their live shows are known for extended descarga sections that invite audience participation and improvisation.
