The Gerenian Rugby Association, or Strazal Ragbyes Gherenies (SRG), in Gerenian language, is the governing body for both rugby league and rugby union in Gerenia. It was founded in 2012 as the Gerenian Rugby National Commission.

History

The Gerenian Rugby Association was founded on 15 September 2012 at a meeting held in Clementsgrad (now Klämen). Several amateur rugby union clubs (all based on the provinces of Isherwood and Ramez) were represented at the foundation. The Commission was originally meant to oversee a national tournament (the Gerenian Rugby Union Championship) and assemble a national team for rugby union only, as rugby league was much less popular than rugby union. Soon after, the Commission expanded their activities to rugby league, in order to participate in international competitions, run by the FMRL.

Gerenia acquired FMRL membership in December 2012, and began taking part in various tournaments. By that time, the very first Championship for professional rugby union teams had ended.

Later, during January 2013, the national rugby union team was officially founded, as two friendly matches against Calbion were arranged.

During mid-2013, the Commission (directly dependent on the Ministry of Sport) was upgraded to an Association. Thus, the body changed its name for the current one.

Structure

The Association is made up of two "Directorates", one for rugby league, and one for rugby union. The head (President) of the Association as a whole is Aleksander Línes.

The Rugby League Directorate

The Rugby League Directorate is the least developed branch of the Association. It maintains a national team and, since 2018, it also runs the Gerenian National Championship.

The Rugby Union Directorate

The Rugby Union Directorate is the most active branch, being responsible for the organisation of the national team, and the national Championships for the two divisions of the national rugby union system.
