Gary Stephan a/l Robbat Hamid is a Dauian professional football player who plays for Liga Mataba club Pretaling Daya City FC

Club Career

A youth product of the Pahmer Huo FC academy in rural Pulau Pahmer, Gary would depart the academy in 2008 in search of a professional career and decided he would move to fellow Pahmer club Pahmer United in the Matabese Division. Gary would go on to play 17 games as a defender with Pahmer United before his contract expired at the end of the season. Following his end of his amateur career in Mataba, Gary would move to Daau in search of pastures new and settled down a deal with Dauian Lower League side Seragaan Insurance FC and only made 2 starts for the club before being picked up by Daau Top League side Seragaan United in January of 2013, signing a one year contract with the club as a 21-year old player and scored 4 goals over his two seasons at the Seragaan club. His star performances for the club led him to be signed by giants Bintang Lukana on a free upon contract expiry. Stephan would start playing more as a defender at Bintang due to their lack of defensive reinforcements and Gary's workhouse ethic for the time. Despite not being a mainstay in the team, Stephan managed to be offered an extension at the end of the 2015-16 season until 2018 due to his fine form the title challengers. However a massive ACL injury paired with the death of his father sidelined Gary out of football for the 2017-18 season and he made his decision to take a break from football to focus on himself and his mental health. Gary would decide to stay out of professional football to spend more time with his family.

Return to Seragaan

Following his career break, Stephan successfully earned himself a contract at his former club Seragaan United following a trial period. Gary only played 4 games that season as his return to football was hampered by injury. His contract was mutually terminated by the club as he asked to depart the club to seek new opportunities overseas.

Muscat City FC

Gary's return season with Seragaan United led to him signing with CFG-owned-Muscat City FC on a 1 year contract worth Cr 28,000 per week. As the club fell into financial turmoil, Gary's contract wasn't extended by the club as he took up a hefty foreign slot and was released as a free agent at the end of the 2022-23 season, ending his career in Zyrkistan.

The midfielder announced he would take another break from professional football following his departure from Muscat City FC.

Pretaling Daya City

Gary Stephan returned to football with CFG again, joining Matabese side Pretaling Daya City on a free in July 2024.

Personal Life

Gary grew up in the Matabese region of Pulau Pahmer, having moved there since birth. Gary's mother is Zyrkis-Krasno whilst his dad is Dauian. Gary however only holds Dauian citizenship as his family currently resides in Seragaan. Rumours surfaced that Gary was in line for a Matabese passport following his move to the Special Administrative Region with Pretaling Daya City, he himself however denied such rumours of ever giving up his Dauian passport to represent Mataba.

International career

Gary has yet to be called up by Daau for a senior international fixture but has appeared as a Dauian player for the Daau Celebration Cup in 2024.

Matabese call-up scandal

On October 2024, the Matabese FA released their call-ups list and Gary Stephan was named as one of the field players which led to uproar from Dauian fans as Gary stated that he was loyal to Daau and wouldn't consider a switch to Matabese nationality. The Matabese FA realized their mistake and took back the press release immediately and apologized to the wider public for their mistake as it was believed that he had held Matabese citizenship.
