ESB East Bay Residency, is a Residency of the Honourable Company in the Dark Berry Islands, subordinate to the Keltian Directorate of Operations. As of 1721 AN the assigned Resident is Athanasia Katja Kerularios.

Background

In 1707, the ESB Security Directorate dispatched a contingent of mercenaries to the North Island in support of the Sofian faction in the Dark Berry Islands civil war. As a result of this intervention, the Honourable Company's Keltian Directorate was able to secure a site at Eastern Bay on North Island. The site was established as the ESB East Bay Residency, with a resident appointed to oversee the residency and its activities.

Residency cantonments

The residency includes halls of residence for registered traders and correspondents, as well as warehouses and offices for the conduct of commercial activities on behalf of the Honourable Company. The residency is enclosed by a perimeter wall of concrete, with access controlled by barbicans and fortified with scarp and counterscarp. The wall encloses the residency buildings and the wharfs, quayside, and docks required for the operation of the Honourable Company. The residency also features an inner harbour, protected by breakwaters, causeways, and a boom defence system with a raisable harbour chain and anti-submarine nets.

All structures within the wall are built in a sturdy manner to serve as potential blockhouses in the event of a perimeter breach. The structures are connected via secure communication tunnels and feature underground levels with bunkers, shelters, and storage areas, protected by blast doors and redundant ventilation systems. The residency is also indemnified to engage in local market speculation and to establish subsidiary enterprises and bid for government outsourcing opportunities in its area of responsibility.

Activities

The main focus of the residency is to encourage the growth and export of Dark Berries, which are commonly found on Ascophosynus bushes across the islands. The berries are known for their health benefits and are widely used in the production of Dark Berry Ale, marketed in New Alexandria as a popular local beverage but with no true prior history. The Honourable Company also invests in the infrastructure and economy of the surrounding area, including the construction of roads and ports, and the provision of education and healthcare. The residency is a key component of the Honourable Company's operations in the Dark Berry Islands and plays a vital role in the growth and development of the region.

Periodically the residency has had to play host to Hurmudan and Raspur Pact nationals who have sought sanctuary there after falling foul of local authorities, such as was notably the case with Khoga Maral, a visiting tourist who managed to get himself deported on account of his scandalous conduct whilst in the country.
