Dromosker Island Crisis

The Dromosker Island Crisis is a series of interconnected geopolitical events centered around the Wilhelm Isles between 1757 and 1759 AN. The crisis began with a dramatic Çakari military intervention on Dromosker Island, evolved into a diplomatic standoff involving naval show-of-force exercises by Nouvelle Alexandrie and Constancia, and culminated in a strategic Çakari deception campaign known as "Operation Ocean Moon." These events ultimately triggered a chain reaction that led to the separation of the neighboring Lija Islands, marking a significant shift in the balance of power in the region.

Çakari intervention

The Intervention and the "Door Incident" In 1757 AN, Çakaristan launched a swift military operation on Dromosker Island after the local Tepesh dynasty (led by Prince Eru IV) refused to recognize the authority of the new Çakari Viceroy, Hardika Mangalamma. The crisis escalated when Mangalamma was denied access to the Council Building. After a failed attempt to ram the doors open, they were shot open, while Çakari fighter jets performed a threatening flyover. Mangalamma subsequently declared the entire council banished and stripped them of their titles.

Consequences and Integration The incident, known as the "Door Incident", led to the immediate dissolution of the Pact of Schaarlecht and the full Çakari integration of the island:

  • Renaming: The island was renamed Xunpadshahan Island and the capital Nurpadeshah.
  • Status: The island became a direct Çakari province (subah), canceling all plans for transfer to the Imperial Federation.
  • Action: Prince Eru IV and the council were deported to the Hexarchy mainland.

International Reaction The action caused a diplomatic rift with Nouvelle Alexandrie, which unilaterally terminated its treaty with Çakaristan. Although Çakaristan imposed no sanctions, its attempt to secure international recognition for the annexation failed. Ultimately, Çakaristan abandoned its claim to the island due to the lack of recognition.

Skerries goodwill cruise

The 1757 Skerries Goodwill Cruise was a naval military operation conducted by the Federal Navy of Nouvelle Alexandrie in the period of 2–16.IX.1757 AN. The cruise was a direct response to the violent annexation of Dromosker Island (renamed Xunpadshahan Island) by Çakaristan in that year.

Background and Motivation Following the annexation, characterized by the "Door Incident" and the deportation of local rulers, Nouvelle Alexandrie condemned the act and refused to recognize the new status quo. Although there was pressure in parliament to impose trade sanctions, the government opted for an alternative.

The Operation:

  • Objective: The cruise was officially presented as a routine "show of the flag" and a goodwill visit to the Skerry Isles region, including stops in New Luthoria and at Constancian islands.
  • Route: However, the fleet's route strategically ran along three sides of the annexed island of Xunpadshahan, through the disputed waters of the Wilhelm Isles.
  • Coordination: The cruise was held simultaneously with a military exercise by the ally Constancia in the same waters. This created a situation where allied warships operated in the vicinity of the Çakari island from two directions.

Outcome The operation succeeded in reinforcing the non-recognition of the annexation without leading to armed conflict or economic damage. The Nouvelle Alexandrian government maintained that the navy's movements were an internal matter, while the international community clearly received the message of protest. It was the primary diplomatic response by the Federation to Çakari expansion.

Constancian occupation

The crisis culminated in Constancia’s occupation of Dromosker Island. Just like the intentions behind the Çakari intervention, these are purely strategic in nature. The suggestion that the ‘Goodwill cruise’ was essentially a reconnaissance mission aimed at claiming the island is denied. Çakaristan reduced its military presence in nearby Lija in order to ease tensions. Constancia’s claim gained international recognition.

Çakari deception

The Apparent Nuclear Test: “Operation Ocean Moon” Vizirat al-Harb announced a new nuclear test under the name “Operation Ocean Moon”, scheduled to take place in the north-east of the island of Lija. This announcement led to global panic, diplomatic protests and a concentration of naval forces from Nouvelle Alexandrie and Constancia.

However, in the interview, Vizier Eshtiaq revealed that the test was not of a nuclear nature. It was a political and strategic test with three objectives:

  • Reaction test: To see how other nations would react to the threat of a nuclear test.
  • To gauge hysteria: To observe which countries would resort to action or diplomatic pressure, and which would become nervous.
  • Diplomatic trap: To expose the ‘unreliable’ and ‘hysterical’ reaction of Nouvelle Alexandrie, which, according to Eshtiaq, responded without engaging in diplomatic communication.

Eshtiaq explained that the Çakari navy had in fact withdrawn troops from the region (a sign that no actual test would take place, as in the event of a real test, ships would have cordoned off and patrolled the zone). The “hysteria”, he argued, was proof of his opponents’ delusions of grandeur.

‘Operation Ocean Moon’ was a deception that proved successful in exposing the tensions and diplomatic intransigence of the opponents. The result was a political victory for Eshtiaq, who was able to use the enemy’s “hysteria” to strengthen the Çakari position, whilst at the same time preventing the escalation of a genuine nuclear confrontation by withdrawing the navy. The Vizier called for an end to “newspaper diplomacy” and a return to negotiations based on mutual respect.

Aftermath: Lija separation

The 1759 Referendum of Lija was a historic vote held on 1.V.1759 AN, where the Lija Islands overwhelmingly chose full independence and sovereignty, with 87% of voters supporting accession to the Confederation of the Phineonesian Nations (CPN).

Driven by a fear of abandonment after the sudden withdrawal of Çakari troops, the existing Island Council spearheaded the move to secure regional protection through the CPN. Although the Çakari Congress vehemently opposed the secession, the Shahanshah intervened decisively, issuing a decree to cease all resistance and negotiate a peaceful transfer of sovereignty. This pragmatic shift prioritized regional stability over territorial claims, neutralizing internal opposition and paving the way for the Treaty of Lija. The result marked the birth of the Republic of Lija, transforming an imperial dispute into a model of international cooperation.

Shortly after the referendum, the proposed Treaty of Lija will formally dissolved all Çakari claims to the archipelago and guaranteed the safe, orderly handover of the islands to the Island Council and the Confederation of the Phineonesian Nations. Effectively ending the geopolitical tensions and marking a unique transition from imperial rule to international cooperation.
