The Cortes Federales Police is the parliamentary police and security force of the Cortes Federales, the bicameral legislature of the Federation of Nouvelle Alexandrie. It provides for the security and guarding of the Cortes Federales and polices the Cortes Federales Buildings and Grounds. The force is established by section 8 of the Cortes Federales Act, 1694, is headed by the Lord Protector of the Cortes Federales, and operates under the direction of the Cortes Police Board.
Establishment and command
Section 8 of the Cortes Federales Act, 1694 provides that, for the security and guarding of the Cortes Federales, security guards shall be assigned to it and that these services, to be called the Cortes Federales Police, shall be provided under the direction of the Lord Protector of the Cortes Federales, who is the head of the force. In policing the Cortes Federales Buildings and Grounds, the Lord Protector acts under the direction of the Cortes Police Board, the statutory body composed of the Lord Protector, the Speaker of the Federal Assembly, the Lord President of the Chamber of Peers, and the Architect of the Cortes Federales. In the absence of the Lord Protector, the appropriate parliamentary police agencies may act in the office's place, as provided by law.
Jurisdiction and powers
The Cortes Federales Police polices the Cortes Federales Buildings and Grounds. These center on the Legislative Palace, the seat of the Cortes Federales; the Cortes Federales Act, 1694 further brings within the term the buildings and grounds of the Library of the Cortes Federales, the Primo de Aguilar Office Building, the Alfonso Velez Office Building, and the Marco Zimmer Administration and Office Building, along with any building or facility acquired for the use of the Cortes Federales for which the Lord Protector has entered into a policing agreement with the force.
Within those buildings and grounds, the force has the power to make arrests for violations of any law of Nouvelle Alexandrie, of the Federal Capital District, or of any Region, or of any regulation promulgated under such a law. Its officers give effect to the rules governing the admission of visitors to the Cortes Federales and hold the powers, including the power to take a person into custody, needed to enforce them.
Cooperation with other agencies
When it is deemed necessary for the security and guarding of the Cortes Federales, the Speaker of the Federal Assembly or the Lord President of the Chamber of Peers may request that the Government dispatch police officers from other law-enforcement agencies for a fixed period, with the consent of the Lord Protector. Ceremonial security at events such as the Opening of the Cortes Federales is coordinated with the Federal Guards Service and other agencies.
