The Cortes Police Board is the statutory body that directs the policing of the Cortes Federales Buildings and Grounds by the Cortes Federales Police. It is established by section 8 of the Cortes Federales Act, 1694 and is composed of four ex officio members: the Lord Protector of the Cortes Federales, the Speaker of the Federal Assembly, the Lord President of the Chamber of Peers, and the Architect of the Cortes Federales.
Establishment and membership
Section 8 of the Cortes Federales Act, 1694 provides that the Lord Protector of the Cortes Federales, as head of the Cortes Federales Police, shall police the Cortes Federales Buildings and Grounds under the direction of the Cortes Police Board. The same section fixes the Board's membership at the Lord Protector, the Speaker of the Federal Assembly, the Lord President of the Chamber of Peers, and the Architect of the Cortes Federales. Each sits on the Board by virtue of their office.
The composition draws together the two presiding officers of the Cortes Federales, the officer responsible for its security, and the officer responsible for its estate.
Function
The Board directs the manner in which the Cortes Federales Police, under the Lord Protector, polices the Cortes Federales Buildings and Grounds. Those buildings and grounds center on the Legislative Palace, the seat of the Cortes Federales; the Cortes Federales Act, 1694 further names within the term the buildings and grounds of the Library of the Cortes Federales, the Primo de Aguilar Office Building, the Alfonso Velez Office Building, and the Marco Zimmer Administration and Office Building, together with any further facility acquired for the use of the Cortes Federales that is brought under a policing agreement with the force.
