The city of Bashkim serves as the de facto capital of the United Cities of the Vales with about 275,000 inhabitants. The name means convergence in the Verdhese language, derived from the location of the city at the confluence of the Verdhe, Sev and Kesk rivers. With the rivers serving as transport routes, the site has served as a trading post and meeting place for hundreds of years. While the city is named in the Verdhese language, the three official languages are very much present, together with Istvanistani, Alexandrian, Ralgonese, Martino, Norse, Elw, Babkhi, Calbic and many other languages. It is the unofficial seat of the Council of the Twelve and the Assembly of the Vales.
