Alexandrian flu epidemic of 1682
The Alexandrian flu epidemic of 1682 was an influenza epidemic that raged in Alrig, Sankt Ludwigshafen and a small region in Jingdao that borders Alrig. The flu is considered to be a mutated version of the Alexandrian Flu that wiped out the Empire of the Alexandrians. The death toll is estimated to have been 13,000 people. First people to get infected with the disease were a group of Ludwigshafener explorers into Alexandrian ruins. These brought it back to Sankt Ludwigshafen. They had notified local authorities of the sickness they experienced, but these denied that Ludwigshafener people were able to attract the Alexandrian flu, which would only affect "impure" people. In reality, the Ludwigshafener people were not immune to the disease, but experienced fewer symptoms than other people. The flu spread in Sankt Ludwigshafen without governmental response, it infected Alriggian traders, who brought it home to Alrig. It spread fast and caused many deaths, both in Alrig and bordering Jingdao. The Jingdaoese Empire deployed Unit 666 which has done extensive research into the original spread of the Alexandrian flu in order to use it against the empire's adversaries. As these had already been developed, they were able to produce a vaccine and medication within two weeks after the epidemic began. Alrig however remained unhappy with the Ludwigshafener response to the disease and launched a punitive expedition, which resulted in the annexation of Sankt Ludwigshafen by Alrig in the second half of 1682.
