Unit history

Formation and Early Years

The 7th Cavalry traces its origins to Suren Division of the old Popular Levy and the Surenshahr Defence Brigade that existed prior to the military reforms of 1718-1720. It was formed as a full division sometime in the late 17th century after the Suren Confederacy joined the Raspur Pact.

Third Euran War (1693-1701)

The Suren Division saw extensive action during the Third Euran War against Zeed between 1693-1701. It played a key role in the Surenid counteroffensive from 1698 onwards that pushed into Zeedic territory following earlier Constancian advances. However, the division struggled with manpower shortages and had to be reinforced by mercenaries, slave soldiers, and court retainers.

Kapavian Insurgency (1715-1717)

In 1715, the Babkhan Restoration Movement launched an insurgency in the Kapavia region aimed at preserving Babkhan culture. The rebel leader Amir Arslan formed the New Model Army which carried out attacks against the Suren government for two years. The 1st Gendarmes Brigade and 2nd Gendarmes Brigade were deployed to help suppress the insurgency, which necessitated significant involvement from Raspur Pact allies before it was finally crushed in 1717.

Reform and Modernisation

Following the Kapavian Insurgency, it became clear that the outdated Surenid military needed comprehensive reforms to modernize and professionalise. From 1718-1720, the 7th Cavalry underwent a process of reorganisation, retraining and re-equipping under the guidance of allied advisors from the Raspur Pact nations like the Benacian Union which led on armoured warfare. This period of reorganisation saw the scout elements of the Surenshahr Defence Brigade and the Suren Division consolidated the into a professional light cavalry force designated as the 7th Cavalry Division.

The Bitter Spring (1730)

In 1730, widespread protests and unrest erupted across the Suren Confederacy and Raspur Khanate in the event known as the Bitter Spring. As the situation deteriorated, the 7th Cavalry was recalled in II.1730 from its deployment supporting Operation Verdant Reach in Parestan. It was then dispatched to the capital Surenshahr to spearhead efforts to crush dissent and rebel forces like the Ḥezb-e Tūde-ye Eura guerrillas.

Supported by Constancian air power, allied advisors and irregular Humanist militias, the 7th Cavalry led assaults on insurgent strongholds through 1730. Its firepower and mobility enabled it to largely decimate the rebel groups through superior force, though at the cost of immense destruction and bloodshed. By late 1730, overt insurgent activity had been suppressed, but underlying grievances remained unaddressed.
