1717 Sanaman intervention in Cisamarra
The 1715 Cisamarran self-coup d'état set off two years of increasing volatility in Cisamarrese politics. While President Vinfetto was successful in taking over the central government, he struggled to extend his authority outside the capital of Acquecalde. The various mafia and militia organisations laying dormant in the country since independence in 1700 and disapproving of the coup, reactivated and took over most major cities outside the capital. These actions resulted in a low intensive civil war between the illegitimate central government and the various actors controlling the rest of the country.
On 20.IV.1717 a major demonstration in Acquecalde directed against the president and the central government turned violent, with protesters storming the presidential palace and security forces being both outnumbered and unwilling to fire at civilians. The insurgents managed to capture the president and prevent him from escaping into exile. Sanaman agents from the National Intelligence Bureau, operating deeply entrenched within the insurgent masses, intervened when the situation threatened to turn violent. The president was swiftly extracted to Oya on an Air Force UH-76 Dromosker and put into house arrest. In the ensuing power vacuum several factions vied for power and started making moves towards Acquecalde, prompting Sanama to launch a full-scale intervention.
On 1.V.1717, units from the I and II Corps of the Sanaman Union Army rolled across the border, supported by aircraft out of Boomwatch and Palë City air force bases. With most of the insurgency consisting of criminal organisations and loosely composed militias, armed primarily with handguns and light assault rifles, it quickly became clear that they were both outnumbered and outgunned by the Sanaman forces, causing most of them to fade into the civilian background. The intervention forces met some resistance when entering Acquecalde, with Sanaman forces firing on insurgents in self defence several times, but ultimately securing the city and the city airport.
On 3.V.1717, a delegation from Sanama met with what was left of the central government in Cisamarra, to negotiate a permanent solution to the lack of effective government in Cisamarra. These negotiations resulted in the Cooperation, Protection and Organisation Treaty between the countries, whereby Cisamarra became a protectorate of Sanama, ultimately governed by a supervisory council consisting of Cisamarran, Sanaman and foreign representatives.
