1716 Act for the Regulation of Occult Practices

The 1716 Act for the Regulation of Occult Practices was proposed to the Chamber of Guilds and Corporations by the Unified Governorates delegation of the Nationalist and Humanist Party on 13.IV.1716 AN.

Remit

The Act provided for a total prohibition on any form of occult practice carried out within the Benacian Union, save for when undertaken by practitioners who have been licenced by the United Ecclesiastical Corporation of Benacia. Occult practices covered by the act included:

  • Telling fortunes, forecasting futures, or furnishing any information not otherwise obtainable by ordinary rational process of knowledge; or use of any occult, psychic power, faculty, force, clairvoyance, clairaudience, cartomancy, psychology, psychometry, phrenology, spirits, tea leaves or other such reading, mediumship, seership, prophecy, augury, astrology, palmistry, necromancy, mind-reading, telepathy, craft, art, science, cards, talisman, charm, potion, magnetism, magnetised article, magnetized substance, gypsy cunning, foresight, crystal gazing, oriental mysteries, magic, or any other such unusual method.
