The Islamic Internet Republic is the successor state of the Republic of the Netherlands, which in turn was the successor state of the Virtual United Provinces.

The Virtual United Provinces used the ancient Prince's Flag of the Dutch Republic. Its emblem was based on that of the historic Dutch East India Company.
When the country became a unitary state, it was renamed to Republic of the Netherlands. It used the flag of the Batavian Republic, as well as its emblem, the Dutch Maiden. The Islamic Internet Republic retained this flag and emblem.
