The Islands of The Honorable Vanderveer and His Kin (shorthand Vanderveer Isles, or Van Isles) are a duo of temperate islands, in which three city-states, of about 60,000 sq km, are located: Tempestad, Corozón, and Galicia. These islands have a long history as a part of The Gralan Empire. There is also an ancient but short history under The Vanderveer Reich which included a proliferation of content and even the creation of the MicrOlympics.¹²

Societies of magic and knowledge

Fraternities

Ancient fraternities exist keeping the wealth of their ancestors alive. Fraternities exist to maintain the ships, their use and architecture, as well as how to maintain them and build new ones. Most sea-fairing Fraternities of today spend their time mostly maintaining the smaller vessels for fishing around the islands, travel and trade between the islands is supported by other fraternities. A few select fraternities harbor the sole responsibility to maintain and man the largest vessels, of which less than half a dozen exist today.

Mysteries

A great deal of magic still exist on the islands since the time of The Gralan Empire, most of it is kept in the hands of the secretive mysteries. Members of the cults pass on esoteric knowledge of magic, its use and how to evoke it. This knowledge is rare and makes the Cults a respected part of the community. They often work with the Fraternities to help maintain ships, build new parts, and enchant vessels, as to give them speed and fortitude amongst the waters.

Secret Mysteries

A redundant title, but owing to the nature of magic amongst the Mysteries. Although the Mysteries communicate with eachother, as to know of the magic that still exist, a very secret group does exist. The Secret Mysteries include a notable cult which practices wine magic and fertility worship, followers of Demeter and Dionysus, bring forth a very rare kind of frenzy on the peoples of The Vanderveer Isles. A special drink can be made from magic and the will of many cultist, but only a few ounces can be made at a time. Through great effort of hours of intense focus a dozen cultist can expect to produce one thousand drops of Dionysian wine. Each enough to induce a sexual fury on a person lasting 8 hours.
