Hapoel Ben Aliv Football Club was a Hammish football club based in the city of Ben Aliv, in the region of Israat, Hamland. A founding member of the Regional League Championship in 2011, it was one of two clubs from Israat in the Hammish league system, alongside Maccabi Judah of the regional seat.
History
Hapoel Ben Aliv was among the twenty-four clubs admitted to the Regional League Championship on its creation in 2011, when the Hamland Football Association added a third division beneath the Premier League and the Second Division Championship. It entered as one of the region of Israat's two sides, the other being Maccabi Judah.
Where Maccabi Judah won its group and was promoted to the Second Division Championship at the end of the first season, Hapoel Ben Aliv stayed down. It remained a Regional League club in the seasons that followed, and as such contested the Nutra Ceap, the division's domestic cup.
Identity and support
The club's Hapoel name, meaning "the worker," marked it as one of the laboring and trade clubs, set against the Maccabi name borne by the rival side at Judah, the regional seat. Its following came from the working households of Ben Aliv rather than the professional and mercantile families of the capital, and a meeting of the two Israat clubs carried something of that division between the labor town and the seat. The club traditionally turned out in red, the color of the workers' sides.
Ben Aliv was better known beyond Israat as the home of the standing lamp of the Judahite rite, kept in unbroken rotation by the town's households, and the club was drawn from the same close and observant community that tended it. The two club names were themselves relics of that tradition: Maccabi and Hapoel are the only Judahite vocabulary to outlast the rite, surviving in the names of the region's football clubs after the courts that had coined them were gone.
The town's most prominent footballer, the Hammish international midfielder Hillel Antar, was a product of Ben Aliv rather than of the club. He came up at Hamlet O'Groppa United and never played for Hapoel Ben Aliv.
Honors
Hapoel Ben Aliv won no national competition. A founding member of the Regional League Championship, it never rose above that third-tier division.
