Operation Faun began in the sixth month of 1750 AN as a concerted effort by the Federal Government of Nouvelle Alexandrie to retake a number of institutions of higher education in the country, which had become bastions of AJNA activism. The action was prompted by the realisation in government circles that academic faculties across the Federation were engaged in diverting public funds, which had been allocated to higher education, towards political activist groups opposed to the recently elected coalition government. This concern became acute as student activism began to metastasise into a concerted attempt to revive the Nouveau Wave dissident movement, disrupting the operation of several prominent universities.

Timeline

VII.1750 AN

  • 10.VII:
    • Federal Gendarmerie deployed to clear encampments at the University of Punta Santiago and Royal University of Parap. Tear gas and baton rounds in widespread use. In one memorable scene, recorded in Parap, a student protestor was lassoed by a mounted policeman and pulled out of the midst of the crowd before being dragged over the cobblestones – at a canter – towards the lines of federal gendarmes whereupon she was swiftly subjected to a flurry of punches and kicks and bundled into the back of a black van.
    • Federal Harmonisation and Coordination Service to begin a sweeping investigation of student support services across the entire higher education sector in Nouvelle Alexandrie, with particular attention to the value for money, or lack thereof, provided by student life offices and offices of community engagement within academic faculties.
