Gang of 21
The Gang of 21 is an informal caucus of independent deputies in the 10th Cortes Federales of Nouvelle Alexandrie who provided crucial support to Premier Juan Pablo Jimenez's Federal Humanist Party (FHP) minority government through a confidence and supply agreement. The group, led by Deputy Jean-Baptiste Delacroix and comprising 21 of the 24 independent deputies elected in 1739, negotiated significant concessions.
Members of the Gang of 21 came primarily from rural and suburban constituencies across eight regions, with notable concentrations in Alduria (6 deputies), South Lyrica (4 deputies), and the Wechua Nation (4 deputies). While technically remaining independent, the group established a formal coordinating committee chaired by Delacroix and met weekly to align voting positions on government legislation. Their support, combined with the Liberty and Prosperity Alliance's 12 deputies, provided the FHP government with a working majority of 347 votes in the Federal Assembly. 3 independent Deputies remain as unaligned with either the government nor the opposition bloc.
Program
The Gang of 21's support for the FHP minority government of Juan Pablo Jimenez was secured through specific policy commitments outlined in the "Agreement for Stable Governance". Key demands included:
- An agricultural investment program focusing on modernizing farming infrastructure, expanding irrigation systems, and supporting small-scale and family farmers, with the goal of reducing food prices by 25% over three years with domestic local production while improving quality standards;
- Maintaining a balanced budget, mandatory spending caps on non-essential government programs, and the creation of an independent Office of Budget Responsibility to monitor public finances.
